2. Horse Owners: On 3rd November at 3.30pm, 24 lucky tickets will be drawn, each representing one of the 24 Melbourne Cup horses. These ticket holders become the official “Horse Owners.”
3. Auction: Now for the fun part! The Melbourne Cup horses are then auctioned off to anyone present at the event. You can bid on your favourite horse to become its new owner.
4. Bidding Rules: If you win the bid and become the new “Horse Owner,” you’ll pay the full auction price. Half of this amount goes to the original “Horse Owner,” and the other half contributes to the “Starting Pool.” However, original owners have a unique advantage. They can retain their horse by having the highest bid but pay only half the successful bid, with that amount also going into the “Starting Pool.”
5. Prize Money: The excitement doesn’t end there! The prize money is determined by the combined total of the original ticket sales and auction proceeds. This pool is then distributed among the lucky winners based on the actual Melbourne Cup results, including 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers.
